PATNA: Bihar State Bar Council on Monday appealed to lawyers across the state to go on a week-long strike from February 15 as per its call made three days back to protest the introduction and continued operation of evening courts in the state.
Council chairman Baleshwar Prasad Sharma said the Patna high court did not take any initiative for withdrawal of notification for running the evening courts. He added that the lawyers’ agitation would continue till the notification was withdrawn.
Sharma said that except for Gujarat, at 10 places, including three in Karnataka, two in Maharashtra and three in Kerala, the evening courts had been started with the consent of the respective State Bar Councils. In other states, the proposal for running evening courts were withdrawn. Even in Orissa the evening courts were closed two days back due to protest by the Bar Council.
